Our Services

Physiotherapy at the clinic will consist of a comprehensive initial assessment, followed by a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and complaint. It will be designed to restore optimal function in the shortest time possible.

An average course of treatment is between 2 and 6 sessions. 90% of cases require manual therapy, which comprises of joint mobilisation, neural mobilisation or soft tissue massage. We also offer acupuncture for pain relief, and electrotherapy modalities. Normally exercises are prescribed to compliment treatment and to maintain optimal function at home.

Joint Mobilisation

Joint mobilisation is a passive hands on movement technique applied to a stiff spinal or peripheral joint. It aims to restore full range of movement to the joint and decrease pain in the surrounding tissues.

Neural Mobilisation

Under normal circumstances our nerves move freely without pain, however, when injured they can become sensitive to mechanical stress, thus producing pain on some movements. Neural mobilisation is a gentle movement technique used by physiotherapists to mobilise nerves, and restore normal function to the spine and peripheral joints.

Soft Tissue Massage

Using trigger point techniques to mobilise connective tissue (muscle, tendons, fascia) relaxing the muscles and increasing circulation and lymph flow. It can be beneficial for treating repetitive strain injury, muscle pain/aches, including tension headaches, neck and back pain.

Electrotherapy

Ultrasound and interferential therapy are used in the clinic to provide pain relief for acute conditions.

Acupuncture

I am a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, and use acupuncture to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Single use, sterile, threadlike needles are inserted into specific points to rebalance the energy and trigger the bodies natural healing response.

Research studies have shown that inserting acupuncture needles into trigger points causes favourable biochemical changes within the body, which help release tension and reduce pain.

Common conditions successfully treated with acupuncture:

  • Neck/back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Referred pain into arms and legs
  • Parasthesia (pins and needles)
  • Cervicogenic headaches
  • Hamstring/calf tightness

Exercise programme

Exercises are usually prescribed to compliment physiotherapy treatment. They may consist of gentle stretches to promote mobility, core stability for strength, balance or proprioception.
